Solubility: Soluble in many organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, petroleum ether, and benzene, but insoluble in water.

Chemical Properties

Camphor is a cyclic monoterpene ketone, which is bornane with an oxo substituent at the 2 - position. It is a naturally occurring monoterpenoid and has the property of sublimation.

Purity

Usually available in purity grades such as 95%, 96%, and 99%.

Uses

In the Plastics Industry: Used in the manufacture of cellophane as a plasticizer for PVC.

In National Defense: Serves as an explosion stabilizer and retarder for smokeless explosives.

In Medicine: Used as a cardiotonic, drip - cooling agent, analgesic, preservative, insecticide, etc. It can be made into camphor spirit. Internally, it is an excitant and carminative; externally, it is a skin irritant for neuralgia, muscle pain, or joint pain. It can also be used to treat frostbite (unbroken) due to its local stimulating effect.

Packaging

Usually packaged in 25KG, 50KG, or 180KG drums.

Should be stored in a cool, dry, and well - ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.
