What is Cyclohexanol

Preparation Process: Cyclohexanol can be prepared through the catalytic hydrogenation of phenol using a nickel or palladium catalyst at 150–200°C under 10–20 atm hydrogen pressure. Alternatively, it can be synthesized by oxidizing cyclohexane with air or oxygen in the presence of a cobalt catalyst at 150–160°C, yielding a mixture of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone (KA oil). The cyclohexanol is then separated via distillation. Another method involves the hydrolysis of cyclohexyl chloride or cyclohexyl sulfate under alkaline conditions. Additionally, cyclohexene can be hydrated using dilute sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid at 80–100°C to produce cyclohexanol.

Usage Scenarios: Cyclohexanol is primarily used as an intermediate in the production of adipic acid and caprolactam, which are key raw materials for manufacturing nylon-6 and nylon-6,6. It also serves as a solvent for resins, lacquers, and dyes due to its moderate polarity and volatility. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is utilized as a precursor for synthesizing various drugs and antiseptics. Additionally, cyclohexanol finds application in the production of plasticizers, stabilizers, and textile auxiliaries. Section 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
  EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Harmful by inhalation and if swallowed. Irritating to respiratory system and skin.Hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air).
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Contact with eyes may cause severe irritation, and possible eye burns. May cause chemical conjunctivitis and corneal damage.
Skin:
Causes skin irritation. May cause irritation and dermatitis. May cause cyanosis of the extremities.
Ingestion:
Causes gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May cause central nervous system depression, characterized by excitement, followed by headache, dizziness, drowsiness, and nausea. Advanced stages may cause collapse, unconsciousness, coma and possible death due to respiratory failure.
Inhalation:
Inhalation of high concentrations may cause central nervous system effects characterized by nausea, headache, dizziness, unconsciousness and coma. Causes respiratory tract irritation. Aspiration may lead to pulmonary edema. Inhalation at high concentrations may cause CNS depression and asphixiation.
Chronic:
Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause defatting and dermatitis. Effects may be delayed. Prolonged exposure may cause non-specific nervous system effects.

Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
  Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid.
Skin:
Get medical aid. Flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion:

Section 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
  General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear.
